400’s Training Day at Parkstone Yacht Club, Poole – 12th April-2025
Nine keen helms and crews were to be found assembling their boats in the dinghy park early on Saturday. With ex National Champions to first timers in the 400, it promised to be an interesting day. Thank you to visitors Jon & Nicola Willars from Notts County for travelling down to join in the fun!
Adam Bowers, started the morning with a classroom session whist waiting for the light breeze to fill in. Afloat by 11:00, Adam set a very short line and windward beat with 9-minute sequences and a start every three minutes, the first two starts just practicing what we had been taught ashore, followed by a short windward leeward race.
Needless to say, the short start line and varying bias Adam set for us required very precise slow speed maneuvering, crisp boat handling, maximum communication and coordination between the crew and helm. Did we manage all of this? - some did!
The lunchtime video revealed all, then it was back afloat for a few more hours for some to redeem themselves, followed by a final closing debrief at 5pm.
