Three of Britain’s leading dinghy repairers are sponsoring the buddy team prize at the GUL RS200 Nationals which start at Looe SC this coming Sunday, Aug 16th. The buddy system links a boat from the silver division and a boat from the bronze division with a leading sailor in the gold division so that the less experienced are given friendly support and help from a top sailor in the fleet. The winning team is the one who’s silver and bronze buddies improve the most over the week. Dirty Hands run by Phil Scott based in Birmingham, Synthesize Yachts and Design run by Jamie Stewart based in Romsey and West Country Boat Repairs run by Pete Vincent based near Bristol will each do a winter overhaul on one of the boats in the winning buddy team. Foils will be re finished, gel dings sorted, hull polished, leaks traced, all ropes and fittings checked out; everything the boat needs.
“This is a great prize which will help give even more emphasis to the buddy teams this year, we are very grateful to the three businesses concerned” commented RS200 Chairman Nick Charles.
To help make sure the buddy teams meet early on during the week and get to know each other there is a new feature at this year’s RS200 Nationals. Directly after the briefing on Saturday evening there will be a special short Looe quiz; the winning buddy team will each receive half their entry fee back.
The RS200 GUL Nationals entry is now closed with 130 boats entered hitting the limit of space Looe has on shore.
Buddy team combinations are now on the Nationals website, through events menu.
