Gul RS200 Nationals entries approaches entry limit
The RS Class Association is delighted to announce that entries for the
Gul RS200 Nationals at Restronguet SC from Aug 17-21 has broken the
important century figure. With 102 entries so far received, there is only
place for 3 further boats, then a waiting list will operate.
We could not want for a better venue for the ultra competitive RS200
fleet. Racing
will take place in the fantastic setting of Falmouth Bay. The event has
been timed such that the tides will assist the sail to the start and back
again after racing. Should the weather be against us, we have the
fallback of racing in the idyllic Carrick Roads.
It promises to be a very open Nationals with a very high standard
throughout the fleet. Eight of the top ten from last years Nationals will
be there incl last years Champions Tom and Jo Hewitson, current Fat Face
Circuit leaders David Giles/Fiona Clark, ex multi Firefly Champions, Dave
and Nikki Derby and last years Gul and Fat Face Circuit winners Jon Lewis
and Pete Vincent. Several leading helms have joined the fleet this year
to raise the standard even further and current RS800 Champion Geoff
Carveth/Sarah Allen is the form horse. Ex Laser 2 Champions Lee
Sydenham/Anne Vaudrey and Olympic 470 sailors Hamish Calder/Severine Rees
Jones will be major forces whilst ex 420 multi champion Steve and Paula
Irish will be manys favourites if light-medium winds dominate. RS400
National Champion crew James Stewart has made a major impact in his first
season in 200's and could be the dark horse with fellow top 400 crew
Keith Bedborough on board. Its going to be great and we have not even
mentioned the huge fight for first lady between Sarah Taylor, Jane
Robertson and our shopping expert Trudie Doris Danbury
A comprehensive social programme has also been planned in the normal RS
spirit.
In addition, as in previous Championships, a series of training seminars
will be run during the week by top sailors who have agreed to talk to
their fleet about the "winning edge". Allied to this will be the buddy
system, with experienced crews passing on gems of wisdom to those lower
down the fleet throughout the week. LDC Racing Sailboats will also be
there to repair boats and ensure that no-one misses a race. Holt will
also be offering their extremely popular pit lane service to ensure
competitors boats have fittings and rope working at their best.
We wish all our competitors very good luck and a great holiday, and thank
Gul International for their continued generous sponsorship.
