RS400 Sailors Robert Espey and Michael Ferguson win ISA Cup, the Irish Endeavour!
The weekend of 4/5/6th October, the RS400 Fleet hosted the ISA Champions Cup at RNIYC, the venue of next year's UK nand Irish Nationals . The Irish Sailing Association Champions Cup is very similar to the Endeavour. 18 Crews from different classes are invited to fight it out and this year it was fought out in the RS400s.
Espey, sailing with Michael Ferguson, claimed his place in the fleet as the nomination from the RS400 class as their national champion, finished top of his flight after three races ahead of Barry McCartin and Conor Kinsella of Cushendall in second and Olympian Finn Lynch - who boasted Annalise Murphy as crew, in third. He had tough competition throughout, not least from another Olympian in Robert Dickson / Conor Twohig (Howth Yacht Club) and Ross McDonald / Robbie English (Howth Yacht Club). McDonald recently won the IRC European Championships at the Royal Irish Yacht Club on Outrajeous, making it an exceptionally tight final series.
25 Irish RS400s have signed up for the well-known RNIYC Frostie series, all hoping to hone their performance ahead of the UK and Irish Nationals at RNIYC next year, which promises to combine excellent racing with a warm welcome and legendary Irish hospitality, truly an event for everyone in the fleet, from the top gold sailors to those firmly in the bronze fleet and 'there for the craic'
