Results / Gul RS800 Inland Championships King George SC - 18/10/2008

A good number of 800’s arrived at the previously unvisited venue of King George Sailing Club on Saturday morning to be greeted with a shifty looking 8 knots. The breeze remained light for the first race, but had picked up to 15 knots for the third. With gusts moving quickly across the water from left to right the race leaders were those who picked their moment to spend time on starboard and not getting sucked into the dam wall on the right hand side.  Three races and thirteen laps saw many place changes through out the fleet and it was a classic snakes and ladders day of big gains and big losses.

Tired crews and London traffic brought ambitious plans for a fleet night out in Central London to a halt with many preferring just to have a social beer after the AGM.

Sunday morning was light again, but the promise of more breeze from forecasters would test the crews in the last race. The second race of the day was particularly close with positions from first to eighth being decided on the last leg. After another day of 13 laps and gusts of 20 knots those teams who missed the Tide Ride didn’t feel too left out. It was the National Champions Ben McGrane and Olivier Vidal who mastered the conditions over the weekend to add the Inland Champions title to their list of achievements this year.

The members at King George were very welcoming, and we thank Vince Horey and his team for their efforts hosting the event. The 800 fleet now looks forward to the Christmas Party on the 6th December.
