An entry 16 RS800s turned out for the Weston open meeting. Saturdays
racing started after a postponement while the wind increased from nothing
to just enough to get round the course. The first race was lead from
start to finish by Matt Larkin and Paul Newton who timed their launch
from the shore to the pin end of the start line to perfection. They were
followed by Paul Jenkins/Colin Hatton then Paddy Gamble/Martin Frary.
The next two races were sailed in the same very light breeze and won by
David and Fiona Sayce. However the consistency of Paul and Colin put
them as overnight leaders followed by the Sayces then Gamble/Frary.
With Sunday came a shifty 8-12 knots of wind. After an issue with a
broken down committee boat racing got away from the club line on a short
course. The first race saw a lot of snakes and ladders with the shifts
and was won by Alisdair James and Alayne Seymour, followed by Matt Larkin
then the Sayces. Race 5 was won by Gamble/Frary followed by
Jenkins/Hatton then Larkin/Newton. With all to play for in the last race
Jenkins/Hatton held a convincing lead and looked likely to win the event
but went for the finish a lap too early and fell to 4th. Larkin won the
race but a second by the Sayces won them the event, Jenkins/Hatton were
second overall and Gamble/Frary third in the race and third overall
