Gul RS800 National Championships Day 3
Gul RS800 National Championships – Day 3
The third day of the Gul RS800 Nationals saw westerly breezes once again, providing shifty racing in a gusty force 3 blowing off the shore.
Overnight leaders Ben McGrane & Olivier Vidal got the right side of the 30 degree shift which hit as the fleet started to take an early lead which was never challenged. Stevie Wilson & Jamie Stewart secured another second, with Justin Deal & Ollie Page coming in third.
Ben Schooling and Tim Hirst finished 4th to continue their consistent series, which leaves them 3rd overall by the end of the day.
The second race of the day saw three boats break away from the pack, those being McGrane/Vidal, Deal/Page and Phil King & Tom Trueman. At the finish Deal/Page held off McGrane/Vidal, which left McGrane & Vidal with a commanding overnight lead after an impressive string of consistent results.
Ralph Singleton & James Clark had a good day with a 5th and 7th to pull them up overall, and new silver fleet leaders are Andrew Smith & Micky Boughton in 11th.
