Gul RS800 National Championships

2007 Gul RS 800 National Championship

Eastbourne Sovereign Sailing Club

With just over 2 months to go until the GUL RS800 National Championships the time has come to tell you all about what’s in store for the biggest event on the 800 calendar. 5 days, 12 races and social programme not to be rivalled – Eastbourne Sovereign Sailing Club is definitely the place to be seen from the 8-12th September!

The RS800 was made for the conditions that Eastbourne famously offers - a great combination of fantastic waves and strong sea breezes. The club it self is located on the waters edge and will be the heart of both social and sailing activities.

A variety of prizes will be up for grabs throughout the competition. The fleet will be split into a Gold and Silver groups, and daily prizes will be awarded to the top performing teams in each. Lots of overall prizes will also be up for grabs including the overall winners of each category and spot prizes such as the youth, masters and ladies trophy. The popular buddy system, where experienced teams are paired with novice ones, will also be a focal point of the nationals, and of course a great prize will be awarded to the top performing pair.

A full social programme will be published nearer the time but rest assured the popular curry night and fancy dress pub crawl are all on the agenda. A Chilli Peppers tribute band will be headlining on the Monday night and a not-to-be missed prize giving ceremony will round the regatta off with a bang.

A new addition to the fun and games for 2007 is the introduction of a Pre-Nationals warm-up event. Following in the America’s Cup foot steps, the series has been named ‘Act One’ and it’ll take place over three days leading up to the championship at ESSC; the 26th & 27th August and September 2nd. The entry fee is £25 for all three days or £10 per day for a one-off. Boats can of course be left at the sailing club between Act One and the Nationals.

The entry fee for the Nationals it self, which includes five full days of racing plus some great social activities, is a bargain at just £128 for entries received before August 11th. There’s an additional discount of £20 for youths aged 19 or below. The late entry fee increases to £152 after the August deadline so get your forms in the post early to avoid disappointment!
