Launch of the Square-top main.
"The vote has now closed regarding the new mainsail design. The vote was carried for the new development by 23 to 7".
This means that we will be sailing with the new sails at some point this season.....
So when will it be?
While it is understood that the sails are ready to go on sale, it is felt that to ensure a smooth and fair transition from the original pin head main to the new square-top main, the new mains will not be allowed at the Europeans in Carnac in under 8weeks time, but after this event the new style main will be accepted with open arms at all events. This does not apply to the new look jibs which can be used freely from now on.
Delaying the introduction of the new square-top mains until after Carnac is proposed for the following reasons:
Give those with new pinhead mains another two months of use out of their sails at Grand Prix events and the Europeans
Ensure that they are available to all that want them before the first event at which they will be allowed
Give people time to raise funds to purchase the new square-top main before the next major event (The 2013 National Championships)
Give the crews that have not had the opportunity to train with the square-top main the time to practice with it
Allows time for a second hand market to develop for the square top mains, albeit, only over the next 4months prior to the Nationals.
Allows people to view the new sails at Grand Prix events before the buy the new sails
