Huge Fat Face RS Anniversary Regatta coming up

One of the biggest dinghy regattas of 2008 will take place this weekend when the RS classes gather at Hayling Island SC for the Fat Face sponsored RS Anniversary Regatta.

Ever since the RS classes were launched in 1994 the majority of the varied boats have been part of one umbrella Class Association. Events almost always involve more than one Class and this has created a real family feel – one of belonging to something bigger than just your own fleet. When the Fat Face sponsored 10^th Anniversary Regatta was held at HISC in 2004 it was such a run-away success that every competitor departed saying they wanted to do that again in the future. Well, 2008 is the year when the busy RS and HISC calendars made this possible and a bumper fun weekend is planned.

Over 200 boats will take part in a varied programme that encompasses all that RS has come to stand for – great racing over a variety of formats and parties to remember! Class racing in Hayling Bay on Saturday on three separate courses will be followed by a Sprint style short course / fast action competition on Sunday, with all Classes coming together for a massive pursuit race on Monday.

Fat Face, based in Havant, has recently launched its own hardware range, including an RS Tera Dinghy and Saturday night will see the hotly contested  Fat Face RS Tera Dinghy race. A representative from each fleet will fight for supremacy right in front of the club house under the spotlight of all their peers and commentary from the inimitable Pete Vincent! A charity sweepstake will raise the stakes still further, to name the Fat Face RS Champion of Champions!

With all the classes’ love of partying, the HISC club house will be the place to be this weekend. Saturday night is also Caribbean night with a barbeque, rum, steel band, rum, DJ, rum and lots of silly costumes. Sunday night is the RS Ball; black tie, posh dresses, speeches, top band, and probably a few more stories to enter into RS legend.

The very first RS Nationals were held at Hayling Island SC and many of the RS classes were tested and developed over hours of sailing at HISC. The spectacularly successful 10^th Anniversary Regatta was held at HISC so with the club’s vital part in RS history, it is the obvious place to hold another Anniversary Regatta. In addition they are one of the few clubs with the facilities, organisational skill and race management teams to organise and run such a large and complex event.
