Results / RS800 Race Coaching Oxford SC - 17/03/2012

The weather forecast on Saturday 17th March wasn’t too promising for the Farmoor Reservoir RS800 coaching day, to say the least!  However, 11 boats turned up on a very grey, damp day to attend the all day training run by Pete Barton.

After the initial talks about boat rig set up, we got on the water in light airs with the occasional force 3 gust.   Although the conditions weren’t ideal, it did give us a stable platform to practice positioning our starts, and soon we were all charging up the reservoir in a series of mini races.

Pete’s request for 5 upwind tacks and 3 downwind gybes per race was soon forgotten as the competitive spirit came to the fore.

After lunch, we resumed the coaching, with Pete taking us through our paces with onshore trapezing exercises, and then back on to the water for another series of mini races finishing at 5.00 pm.

The day ended with a debrief in the clubhouse, with Pete’s filming of our moments of glory! Or not.   All in all, well worth it, as we all gained valuable tips ready to start the season.   We are now eagerly awaiting Pete to upload the video on to Dropbox!
