RS800 Rooster National Tour at Lymington Dinghy Regatta 9-10 July

Ten RS800s headed down to Lymington for some great racing.  The forecast was for a lot of sun and a decent bit of breeze, so it was sure to be a good weekend.

Race one was sailed in offshore, shifty, and gusty wind.  The lead was constantly changing, keeping all the sailors on their toes in a game of snakes and ladders.  After a couple of intense laps in wind ranging from 0-15 knots, Luke and Emma McEwen were able to take the win.

After race one the sea breeze took over from the gradient wind and the remaining races were sailed in a building South Westerly.  This more stable breeze meant that tide was the more important factor when deciding which way to go.  Tom Morris and Guy Fillmore took the win in race two, and Luke and Emma claimed their second victory of the day in race three. While 1st and 2nd were sailing away from the rest of the fleet, the battle for 3rd place went on, with tight points between Phil Walker and John Mather, Sam Jones and Sam Webb, Ben Palmer and Dicken McLean, and Fred Lord and Louise Gale.

Day two was all about the tide again, but with the tide turning halfway through the day, it made for some more interesting decision making.  The front two continued to dominate, with Luke and Emma taking two bullets and a 2nd, and Tom and Guy with two 2nds and a 1st , meaning that Luke and Emma had taken the overall win.  However, the last race was a bit tighter, with a couple of other boats threatening to break into the top two.

The battle for 3rd continued on day two but with the absence of Phil and John, it was made slightly easier. Sam and Sam had started to figure out the differences between the rS800 and a 29er, and with Sam Webb now armed with double the experience he had on day one (his first sail in an RS800 was on Friday evening), they were able to go a little faster and finish 3rd overall.

A huge thankyou to both LTSC and RLYC for hosting the event and making it all run smoothly.  Thank you to Rooster for sponsoring our RS800 National Tour.

Well done to Luke and Emma for the overall win, Tom and Guy for 2nd place, and Sam and Sam for 3rd.  Well sailed by all.
